On the other side of the Hall is suspended an imposingly large stuffed fish – a Sturgeon (Accipenser sturio).  It makes quite a statement as a Natural History specimen from Dorset in that it is not only huge - nearly 3 metres in length - but also quite rare in Dorset waters (especially at this size!).  Caught in the River Frome near Bindon Abbey in 1911 by a Major Radclyffe, it was offered to King George V (as custom required) but it was refused, with the suggestion that it should go to the ‘Dorchester Museum’.
