The Dorset County Museum holds wonderful collections that link to stories of Dorset’s people and places throughout the centuries. The collections are a fantastic learning resource, are not restricted just to the study of history and offer both formal and informal learning opportunities for everyone.
The Learning team work innovatively and creatively on a wide range of projects not just for schools and centres of learning but also for Extended Services, Adult and Family Learning, Adults with Learning Disabilities and Looked After Children. We work in partnership with other providers and services to ensure high quality, challenging and flexible programmes.
We are on the Teaching Outside the Classroom database as part of Dorset Graduate and Registered Teacher Programme, providing voluntary opportunities for trainees to undertake a three day placement with Dorset County Museum as a Learning Outside the Classroom provider.
We provide talks, activities and placements for SCITT and other Teacher Training programmes. . We address individual schools and Pyramids on our work and projects and provide workshops on the creative use of our collections.
We address conferences on our work in the south west and further afield for a variety of audiences including an Early Years, Extended Services and Provision for 14 – 19 year olds.
