The Museum Club is the DNHAS' group for children 7--14.

Museum Club activities for August 2008 to April 2009
All events start at 10.30am and end about 12.30
Saturday 18 August
- Time. Making sun clocks. water clocks and moon clocks.
There will also be a presentation all about time and how to
measure it, and a heap of other things to do and find out about.
Parents are encouraged to stay for this event as there will be lots of
opportunities for practical activities.
Venue: Borough Gardens if fine, the Museum if not.
Saturday 6 September
- Raft and Boat building.
See if you can make a craft or ship out of materials
from our local scrap store, and set sail down the local
river. Make your ship to carry your action figures or
teddy on a fast water race down the local river.
A collection will be made for the RNLI, and the best
overall ship design will be judged by a local
Naval Commander, so be spick and span!
Meet in the Museum's Jurassic Coast Gallery, before
moving down to Hangman's Cottage.
All children must be accompanied for this event.
Saturday 4 October
- A Book Week special.
Come and learn how to design and make comics, graphic novels or story boards.
Be in your own comic strip, develop and invent your own super hero.
Write your own story line, plot and save the world before lunch time.
Venue: Dorset County Museum
Saturday 1 November
- Halloween Special
Come and make bats, spiders and bugs to take home,
or to hang up in the town's Wildlife Garden
(behind All Saint's Church in High West Street).
Meet in the Wildlife Garden is the weather is fine,
or in The Museum's Victorian Hall if wet.
Parents are encouraged to stay for this event.
Saturday 13 December
- Get a head at the Museum Club
Make a mask, head, gargoyle and many more.
Take a hunt around the Museum for the many heads
and faces hidden away in the collection. Then head on
downstairs to make your own ...

- Build your own Wheeled Transport
A fast, practical free-wheeling introduction to
trains, cars,tanks, bicycles, anything with wheels.
We will look at some of the in-house exhibits
to inspire us.

- Valentine Love Potions Workshop
On the Saturday before Valentine's Day, come along to Dorset County Museum
to make your own 'Lurrvvv Potions'!
You can also mix up some cheeky elixirs on the side. If that doesn't have
the desired effect, try eating some chocolate instead when Museum Club
leader, Laurie Barbour, takes you on a guided tour through the Nutty
Brittle of the confectionery of love...

- History of the Submarine
If you are at sea with all things nautical, don't worry! Laurie will
give you a `crash dive' introduction to the ups and downs of the
submerged history of the submarine. Please bring your own (empty)
2 litre plastic bottle.

- St George's Day Special
Let's make our own dragon and St George and see if we can make a small
spectacle of ourselves. If the weather is with us we can have a duel
between the dragon and knight by the town's water pump!
All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for
this event.
