The Bach Players: A Musical Offering
The Bach Players is a group of singers and players known for their engaging programmes of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music. According to needs, the ensemble varies in size from three to twenty-five musicians. In their concerts The Bach Players make links between composers, national styles, and developments in music – to provide a wider context in which to present the famous composers of the time. They play on original instruments, and all vocal music is sung in its original language.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Musical Offering (BWV 1079) is a late work that both looks back to the tradition in which he worked and forwards to the music of his sons. We play this dazzling piece in the context of works by Buxtehude, Bach’s esteemed elder, and his contemporary, Telemann
- Dieterich Buxtehude (c. 1637–1707): Sonata no. 6 in D minor for violin, viola da gamba, and basso continuo
- Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767): Paris Quartet no. 6 in E minor for flute, violin, viola da gamba, and basso continuo
- Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750): The Musical Offering, BWV 1079
- Marion Moonen flute
- Nicolette Moonen violin
- Reiko Ichise viola da gamba
- Silas Wollston harpsichord
Dorset County Museum Music Society
Six fine professional chamber concerts given in St Mary’s Church and the United Church Dorchester. These temporary venues are necessitated by the closure of the Dorset County Museum building and its wonderful Victorian Hall, the home of the DCMMS for 44 years, during the extensive and hugely exciting building works - Tomorrow's Museum for Dorset - funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund. We look forward to our return to the Museum for the start of the 2020/2021 season.
