SPECIAL PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES
Bringing Dorset County Museum to the widest possible audience
Dorset County Museum holds wonderful collections that link to stories of Dorset’s people and places throughout the centuries. Because of this the Museum is host to a wide range of special projects.
Some of these projects, such as Romney and the Boy in the Red Coat or Hardy's Wessex Brought To Life, are linked to the acquisition, research and display of new collections. Other projects are linked to particular events, such as Our Sporting Life, which is part of the 'Cultural Olympiad' connected with the 2012 Olympic Games.
Other projects are part of the ongoing activities of the Society and its Museum, like the research carried out by Dorset County Boundary Survey or our work with the Museum Makers - a group of adults with learning disabilities.
Dorset County Museum also likes to work in partnership with other museums, for example contributing to the British Museum's History of the World in 100 Objects, and to take part in initiaves to raise the profile of museums more generally. These include both local activities, such as the Dorchester Cracker, and national campanigns, like Museums At Night for example.
