Thomas Hardy on Stage and Screen
This brand new exhibition examines the author's relationship with the theatre and dramatic adaptations of his novels and stories for stage, screen and TV. The exhibition focuses on his work with The Hardy Players, an amateur dramatic group which dramatised and staged Hardy's works between 1908 and 1924.The exhibition includes annotated scripts, actors' parts, programmes, posters, a facsimile of the model Hardy theatre used to design the scenery, photographs of the Hardy Players in production along with artefacts and costumes from the company. Also available is a painted scenic backdrop copied from original scenery designs, and wooden cut-out figures for a children’s play area. Also includes AV of an interview with Norrie Woodhall, the last living member of the original Hardy Players and sister of their star performer, Gertrude Bugler, and can include clips from various filmed productions of Hardy, subject to PRS permissions to be applied for by hirer. Size: Up to 120 sq metres. Size comments: Can be hired with or without touring cabinets. Content is thematic and can be adapted to fit hirer’s space. Security: Regular checking. Venue must be secure at night. Hire fee: £435 per week for full exhibition with cabinets. Price is negotiable to suit hirer’s requirements and reductions can be given for hire of over three months. Cost includes installation, dismantling and collection. Insurance value: £75,000
